Wellington Vision Care Fundraising Roundup
We wanted to take a moment to highlight something positive and to thank you for your support of our charitable initiatives over the past year. It’s truly overwhelming to see the response month after month and there is absolutely no way we could do it without you! Together with our patients, suppliers and collaborative donators, we at Wellington Vision Care and our sister clinic, Merivale Vision Care raised over $42500 in support of local charities in 2021.

We kicked off 2021 with Heart Month in February by making a $3784 donation to the Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada’s largest cardiovascular heath center and main influencer when it comes to preventing heart disease!
In March, we celebrated Women’s Day by donating $925 to the Zonta Club of Ottawa, our local chapter of a global organization that empowers women worldwide as they strive for a women’s rights to be viewed simply as human rights.
Then came April, when we recognized the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil campaign by giving $4000 to their cause; an initiative that raises funds to support groundbreaking research across Canada and improve the quality of life for people affected by all cancers.
In May, we celebrated Mother’s Day and donated $580 to Dress for Success Ottawa to help them in their mission to help women achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools.
During the month of May, we also gave $500 to the Chinese Canadian National Counsel for Social Justice. CCNC-SJ is an organization that educates, engages and advocates for equity and justice for everyone in Canada.
June is Pride month, so we chose that month to donate $3996 to Capital Rainbow Refuge, a non-profit organization founded in 2010 to support and sponsor LGBTQI+ refugees. In more than 70 countries, LGBTQI+ communities are criminalized. Alongside state or police actions against them, LGBTQI+ people often face unimaginable human rights violations perpetrated by families, institutions, and communities. Through volunteer-led sponsor groups, advocacy, community building and outreach, Capital Rainbow Refuge helps LGBTQI+ refugees and newcomers arrive and thrive in Eastern Ontario.
July and August were largely dedicated to raising funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. Through collaborative efforts with our patients and some of our business partners, we raised $10,000; which not only helped us fill 210 backpacks with the supplies a child needs for a successful school year, but allowed us to make a monetary donation as well.
In September, we celebrated Bruyère month by giving $3056 to their #BeMoved initiative and helping tint the town teal.
October brought us World Sight Day, which is obviously near and dear to our hearts! So we donated $2944 to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness’ #LoveYourEyes campaign and Optometry Giving Sight.
In November and December, we recognized the increased need for food donations in our community. We teamed up with CAPCORP, the Ottawa Food Bank and the Parkdale Community Food Bank to raise $12716 to help feed our community.

So, thank you! Thank you for your support; from booking eye exams and choosing us for your eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses, to sharing our blogs and liking our posts.
Now as we head into 2022, we invite you to follow along on social media to see what our initiatives will be this year, and let us know if there’s an organization you’d like to see us work with!
